brief introduction

In today’s digital age, privacy protection and data security are increasingly valued. Privacy computing, as an emerging technology, has enormous potential and market demand. More and more enterprises and individuals are paying attention to data privacy issues and seeking reliable privacy protection solutions. The Aleo project came into being, aiming to provide users with powerful privacy computing capabilities through blockchain technology and Cryptography tools, and ensure the privacy and security of data in the computing process.

Aleo project is an open privacy computing platform, which aims to protect the privacy of user data through advanced technologies such as Zero-knowledge proof and decentralized authentication. The core concept of Aleo is to enable users to perform calculations without leaking data, and to ensure the correctness and verifiability of the calculation results. Aleo’s goal is to build a decentralized privacy computing network that enables users to securely share data, perform calculations, and access applications while protecting personal privacy and data security.

Technology

Zero-knowledge proof

Aleo adopts the Zero-knowledge proof technology, which is a Cryptography tool that can verify the authenticity of a statement without revealing relevant information. Through zero-knowledge proof, Aleo can ensure the verifiability and correctness of calculation while protecting data privacy.

Decentralized authentication

Aleo has implemented a decentralized authentication mechanism, allowing users to anonymously participate in the computing process while protecting the security of their identities. This authentication method avoids the risk of traditional centralized authentication and potential Data breach.

Smart contract function

Aleo supports smart contract functionality, which means developers can build various privacy computing applications based on the Aleo platform. Smart contracts can ensure the security and reliability of the computing process, providing users with a brand new privacy protection experience.

In addition, a major challenge faced by blockchain is the balance between privacy and programmability, and Aleo’s zkCloud system meets the demand for programmable privacy by achieving privacy and programmability without sacrificing computational performance.

ZkCloud describes a peer-to-peer, decentralized privacy computing model in which blocked identities can interact directly (such as asset transfer) or programmatically (through smart contracts). In a typical public blockchain, program execution occurs on the chain of global ‘virtual machines’ (VMs) run by each network node. Therefore, each node in the network must recalculate (and collectively agree) each step of a given program. This is not only inefficient, but also reduces speed and increases the cost for end users. And since this VM must be able to access relevant information, privacy cannot be protected.

ZkCloud overcomes these limitations by separating the application runtime from the state maintained by the blockchain. Combining zero knowledge recursive proof Zeke and Aleo’s consensus mechanism PoSW, this enables Aleo to achieve complete programmability and privacy, as well as higher transaction throughput compared to the on chain VM model (somewhat similar to zk-rollback).

Aleo’s PoSW is a consensus mechanism of PoW, a variant of Bitcoin’s SHA based difficulty adjustment algorithm. The main difference is that the underlying computation is not an arbitrary hash function, but a proof of knowledge. Making PoSW solutions not only serve as PoW to ensure system consensus, but also provide verification of transactions contained in a given block, preventing computational power from being wasted on meaningless calculations, and logically, further optimizing performance.

In subsequent testing networks, it was also confirmed that the transaction throughput was very good. During the testing, the fastest miner calculated around 10k proofs per second, and the entire network’s hash rate reached a peak of over 20k proofs per second (meaning TPS is around 10k-20k).

But the actual TPS is likely to differ from the TPS of the test network, so it is still necessary to connect the main network to know the actual performance.

In addition, the programs running in zkCloud are offline, so it doesn’t matter as long as the blocking transaction is submitted at the end of the calculation. Compared with the on chain execution model like Ethereum (where the running time of the program is limited by “gaslimit”), this opens up more possibilities for more kinds of applications without consuming more transaction fees.
Therefore, in summary, zkCloud enables Aleo to achieve the goal of a private, programmable, and high-performance network by separating execution and state into off chain and on chain, and only submitting proof of the execution process to the blockchain by blocking transactions.

risk

1. Privacy protection blockchain technology is still in its early stages of development, and the market demand is not mature enough. Therefore, the technical challenges and security vulnerabilities in this field may affect the feasibility and user trust of the Aleo project. Investors need to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of Aleo’s technical implementation to understand potential technical risks.

2.In the field of privacy protection, there are many competitors, and Aleo needs to compete with other companies, such as Monero, Zcash, etc. The emergence of other similar projects and technological advancements may have an impact on Aleo’s market share and business model, so there is a certain level of competition risk.

3. At present, the Aleo main network has not been launched yet, and it may take until about September this year. Its development prospect cannot be fully determined, and there are certain market risks.
In addition, the regulatory environment and legal risks in the field of privacy computing also need to be considered.
